TOUR DE SINGKARAK 2013 IS OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED

Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy Republic Indonesia in cooperation with the Government of West Sumatra Province, 17 supporting cities and regencies in West Sumatra and the Indonesian Cycling Federation (PB ISSI) officially launched the annual international cycling race Tour de Singkarak 2013 in Silang Monas Selatan (Ikada), Monumen Nasional, Jakarta on Sunday, 12 May 2013. Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Mari Elka Pangestu, accompanied by the Vice Governor of West Sumatra Muslim Kasim, Executive Chairman of Tour de Singkarak and also Vice Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sapta Nirwandar,  Chairman of The House of Regional Representatives Irman Gusman beat traditional West Sumatra drum Gendang Tasa to marks the official launch of Tour de Singkarak 2013, which will be held in West Sumatra on 2 to 9 June 2013. The launching of Tour de Singkarak 2013 begins with Fun Bike Road to Tour de Singkarak 2013 which was participated by more than 1500 people from the Greater Jakarta.

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Mari Elka Pangestu stated, "Tour de Singkarak 2013 has entered its fifth edition and has been successfully held consecutively in recent 4 years. It has also become the annual official agenda of the Union Cycliste International. As an event that combines the promotion of tourism and sports achievements, Tour de Singkarak directly benefited West Sumatra as one of tourism destinations in Indonesia. Not only increased the number of foreign and domestic tourist visiting West Sumatra every year, Tour de Singkarak also accelerate the growth of creative economic activities in West Sumatra which eventually lead to the improvement of people's welfare. Meanwhile, the Executive Chairman of Tour de Singkarak, Sapta Nirwandar asserted that Tour de Singkarak has earned warm welcome and good review from various parties in Indonesia and abroad. In terms of implementation, this event is always getting assistance from the Amaury Sport Organizer (Tour de France's organizer) since 2011. This assistance made Tour de Singkarak developed to be more professional, both in terms of participants/athletes and involvement of cities and regencies in West Sumatra and sponsor from private company. We are so grateful to the full support of Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI), Garuda Indonesia and Daihatsu as well as other companies which are so enthusiastic in sponsoring Tour de Singkarak 2013.

Tour de Singkarak 2013 will contest 7 stages through the total distance of 1173 km and a total prize of 1.2 billion dollars. Those stages will be held across the West Sumatra's 17 most scenic and culture-rich districts and involves the participation of 220 cyclists from 18 countries; Australia, Brunei, Canada, Taipei, Indonesia, Iran, Ireland, Japan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Netherlands, Philippines, Singapore, Spain, Thailand, United States and Uzbekistan.
